I am a lifelong Alaskan, father of two, 24-year member of the Anchorage Fire Department, happily married after being divorced once. I know the extraordinary highs and lows that working in public safety can bring; I’ve been awarded Employee of the Year as well as been demoted. I’ve lost friends and coworkers because of the job, both to injury/illness and suicide. Through it all, I’ve striven to maintain my desire to help others succeed and now have the position of Safety Officer with the AFD.
